The potential fallout from Adrian Peterson’s police scuffle.

Adrian Peterson was arrested earlier this morning in a Houston nightclub for resisting arrest according to the NFL.

The details are still pouring in but what is known is that Peterson, his girlfriend and others closed out the club that they were at.

As police officers ushered patrons out of the club at closing time, Peterson asked for water, was told to keep it moving, some “words were exchanged,” Peterson started to exit the club with club security and then a police officer jumped on his back from behind, tried to take him down and had to get help from a variety of other officers to complete the arrest.

Peterson spent the night in jail and was arrested this morning on $1,000 bond.

The Vikings have issued a simple statement.

“We are aware of the situation,” the Vikings said. “We will withhold further comment until more information is known.”

What is known is that the surveillance and cell phone footage from the scene is about to hit the internet in full force and this will indeed be one of the marquee hits of the summer.

The impact of this situation could not be more profound. Peterson is attempting to play on opening day as he fights his way back from a devastating knee injury.

The Vikings medical staff most likely will keep their upcoming assessment of his situation under wraps but fighting with police offers could not have done his rebounding knee any favors.

It’s too early to tell if he was right or wrong within this situation. Even if the police officers were all-the-way in the wrong that doesn’t do AP any good if he sustained further injury.

What’s he going to do? Sue the city of Houston to go with the money that he already has?

Peterson has been praised for his almost superhuman comeback up until this point. Has that all just gone to the wayside if he suffered a setback?

Peterson is a true competitor and somewhere-in-the-midst of the “words exchanged” part of the show he should have thought about his team and his career.

The hardest thing for any competitive man to do is to walk away from a perceived challenge.  However some times you have to know when to fold and let it go.
