HomeNFLAtlanta FalconsAtlanta Falcons discuss their giant victory Adrian Gregory Glover December 17, 2012 Atlanta Falcons, NFL After dropping their second loss to the mediocre Carolina Panthers, the concern began to mount around the Atlanta Falcons. How did they respond? They showed up and beat the reigning world champions down in all three facets of the game. In the aftermath of their 34-0 victory, various members of the team and coach Mike Smith broke it down to the media and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Quarterback Matt Ryan who is flirting with staying in the MVP conversation, discussed how it felt to play well on Sunday. “It feels great to play that well on both sides of the ball,” Ryan said. “Especially after last week (a 30-20 defeat to the Panthers). If we can keep this momentum and passion going, I think the sky is the limit for us.” Defensive beast John Abraham detailed the process of bouncing back after the Carolina loss. “We know what kind of team we have,” Abraham said. “I think we were enjoying the victory and the (NFC South) championship thing. Getting in the playoffs was not our major goal. We just ate that up too much and seeing a team with the record (the Panthers) had, just came out and thought the game was over with. But they came with a lot of fire and we didn’t.” Coach Smith voiced what many of the team’s critics have stated all year long. “They don’t remember what you do in September and October,” Smith said. “It’s all about December and January. We’ve been saying we haven’t played our best. We haven’t played our best game and when we watch the game tomorrow, we’ll probably have that same opinion.” Will this game project the team into home field advantage and beyond? Time will tell but when they had to play “up” to a strong team, the Falcons answered the call and stripped them of their pride. Check out Matt Ryan’s post-game video below.
