The Chicago Bears offense has grabbed all of the attention that has been afforded the franchise this off-season.
RB Matt Forte played his contract issue out in front of us all and now WR Brandon Marshall has stepped up and become the latest NFL player to get into the Super Bowl prediction business.
Team leader/MLB Brian Urlacher has made a bit of news here and there thanks to his relationship with actress/model Jenny McCarthy.
What has flown quietly passed most is that Urlacher is still dealing with problems after he sprained ligaments in his left knee during the last week of the 2011 regular season.
Urlacher reportedly missed his fourth straight practice on Sunday in regards to the issue according to the Chicago Sun Times.
‘It’s always a concern when you have an injury at the end of the year and you miss some time in the offseason,’’ Bears coach Lovie Smith said. ‘‘But he should be OK.’’
It could be nothing but Urlacher is 34 years-old. The human body is not built to take what he has taken and he’s lucky to have maintained 13 years in the league.
The healing process can’t be working out as well for him as it would have even five years ago and with so much on the line this season, there must be something to this if he’s not out there setting the tempo for his unit.
DE Julius Peppers has assumed a leadership role in that group now that he has been there for multiple years but there is no louder voice on that side of the locker room than Urlacher’s.
Coach Smith famously speaks in measured words and tones and for him to use the word concern speaks to the idea that 2012 may get off to a very rocky start for the team’s living legend.
