MEMPHIS—The sound of the clickers was loud. The Clippers could hear them on the East Coast all the way from the West Coast.
The clickers were messages. The clickers were remote controls headed to other channels in frustration as the Clippers fell to a 27 pt. deficit against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies are the favorites to win this series. Right out of the gate they were more physical than the Clippers were. It looked like they were going to win in a very definitive fashion.
Then Nick Young came to the party. Young scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and spurred the Clippers to a dramatic comeback win that rivals anything that I’ve ever seen.
Young, who finished with 19 points, connected on a trio of 3-pointers within a 1-minute span that lifted the team when both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin could not. Every contender needs that guy that can get it done when all else fails.
Now, regardless of the situation, the Clippers believe that no hole is to great that they cannot get out of.
Chris Paul will get most of the glory for this one as he sank the free throws that technically won the game. He could not have done that without Young and to a lesser degree Reggie Evans.
Nick Young finished with 19 points. Paul finished with 14 points and 11 assists. Griffin finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
For Memphis, Rudy Gay 19 points and seven boards.
