FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – After a glorious Week One showing, the New York Jets are already licking their wounds.
Coach Rex Ryan announced on Friday that Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis, tight end Dustin Keller and linebacker Bryan Thomas will miss Sunday’s game against the Steelers.
The loss of Revis is devastating with the Steelers relying on one of the fastest guns in the NFL at wideout in Mike Wallace.
Presumably cornerback Antonio Cromartie will try to cover Wallace but the Steelers also have Antonio Brown to turn to who is also a vertical threat.
Revis initially was thought to be able to be cleared in time to play on Sunday after he was diagnosed with a concussion after teammate Bart Scott kicked him in the head during last Sunday’s beating over Buffalo.
ESPN quoted Revis in regards to his outlook on the situation.
“We’ll always follow NFL protocol when it comes to concussions,” Revis said. “I’m doing tests every day, doing the best I can to get back.”
The loss of safety valve Dustin Keller is bigger than some may think as Keller as always played the crutch role when quarterback Mark Sanchez gets into trouble with an opposing pass rush.
Last time I checked, Pittsburgh is pretty good at creating that situation.
Keller’s’ hamstring injury occurred in practice this week and he like Revis is expected to play next week.
