Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley issues an apology.

Coming into the 2012 off-season, DT Nick Fairley was poised to be the heart of the Detroit Lions defensive line while teammate Ndamukong Suh was due to be it’s soul.
These two were said to be focusing on making life so miserable for opposing RBs and QBs that their high-powered offense would consistently start drives on a short field.
Then Fairley got arrested for possession of marijuana in April. That should have scared him back into the straight and narrow. He followed that up with a DUI in May. Both incidents happened in the state of Alabama where he was born.
Now Fairley is staring down a likely suspension from the league to kickoff his regular season. He has said little if anything regarding this mess until today when issued a statement on the Lions website.
“After taking some much-needed time to reflect on recent incidents, and after conversations with my advisers, teammates, and members of the Lions organization, I would like to make the following statement:
“I want to personally apologize to my fans, teammates and the Detroit Lions organization for bringing this unwanted attention to our team. I recognize my actions were inexcusable and I personally need to uphold the expected standard of behavior of a professional athlete. I do not take for granted this opportunity and feel blessed everyday to play in the NFL.
“At this time, I am fully cooperating with the Mobile, Ala. Police Department. I am now focused on moving forward and committing my focus to football. I would like to thank everyone for your concern and understanding.”
Hopefully, Fairley will avoid Alabama for awhile. Fairley, like many athletes before him seemingly falls into certain situations while he is there that may be attributed to making poor social choices.
The bottomline is that it’s really hard to uplift yourself when others that you have known for a longtime drag you down.
Not everybody gets the chance to be a NFL star but everybody loves to party with one.
