Giants GM Jerry Reece says Victor Cruz just had “one good year.”

Giants GM Jerry Reece has spoken to the media more this week than he has in recent memory.  He started by throwing his hat in the ring with the Osi Umenyiora contract dispute.  He is now saying that situation is not “personal.”

He moved on to addressing the running back situation after they drafted David Wilson in the first round.

Next up? Victor Cruz.

Cruz has done it all right this off-season. He stated that he would like more money but that he won’t hold out. He’s been the player ambassador for the team this off-season and he’s done it all with a smile. He even turned down Dancing With The Stars at the height of his salsa inspired mania.

According to the New York Post, Reece says he would be a natural fit for DWTS but now is not the right time.

“I think Victor would be good on that, Victor’s a smart guy, I think Victor wants to focus on football more than anything else right now,’’ Reese said. “He had one good year; one good year [doesn't] make you a great football player. It means you had one good year.

He’s a smart young man, I think he wants to focus on what’s most important, and that’s football. I think maybe at some point later on in his career he might be able to do that but right now I think he’s focused on trying to be a good football player.’

Hold up did he just say Cruz is not a great player?  Even if there is some truth to the one good year thing, that certainly was not an assertive comment to make in regards to a guy that’s towing the company line.

If you do not want to go deep into your pocket book, that is one thing but whoever this Reece character is, i think he must have been watching another team as Victor Cruz is one of the men most responsibole for the ring Mr Reece is wearing and quite often he was the reason the giants had wins in that column. Victor Cruz showed the team respect theroughout its run, always said it was a team effort, always spoke highly about the game and the team and deserved at the last a “shut Up” from a man that i would now make pay through the nose for his comments or show the same respect when it came to other offers on the table. The ball is in your court mr Cruz, make him pay now !!!!!

First of all if you don’t even know who Reese is don’t tell NYG team what they need to do. Reese is the best GM in the NFL and if it wasn’t for him Cruz wouldn’t be on a team… Yeah people wanted him cut in 2 years he only had one preseason game where he stuck out vs the Jets 2 years ago so he owes the GIANTS as well and MANNING carried this team all year

You dont throw the bank at ONE guy after ONE year thats why the Giants are one of the best teams. When you pay one year wonders every year and 1/3 of them pan out then you screw the team over.

Cruz is a great player and is under contract and REESE will offer him a deal but its not going to be the type of money a LArry Fitz gets or a player like Nicks since they have played for YEARS and proven theres no fluke.

I dont think Cruz is a fluke they should give him a deal around 3.5-4 Mil GAR then put in tons of incentives so he can make up to 6-7 Million if he puts up numbers like last year and sign him to a 4 year deal.

Right now we got him for less than 1 MIL so we can give him more but he needs to meet us in the middle since we can make him play out his deal then if he still didnt sign we could TAG him so it has to a meeting in the middle

The Giants dont play big money to WR’s or RB’s Cruz is a great Slot WR but he doesnt have the Size to ever be paid like a MEGAtron or a Larry Fitz

Wow, Mr Reece needs to pull his head out of the clouds. VC has come out and became one of the primer receivers in the NFL. But i understand that he is looking at last season and would like to see more consistency. The Giants just need to focus on the D – line and the running game. Honestly, VC is #1 in my book.

Jerry Reese is playing cheapskate with the purse strings. He is the GM , so he won’t go out there and praise guys (who deserve it) if they are looking for a big pay day at contract time. Cruz just jump started the whole season with HIS catch and run in the J E T S game.
he also made great catchs with second effort to inspire the rest of the lame giants to better play. If Jerry Reese thinks this is an every day happening for receivers out there, let him go get a few more for us. Also go get a few more Osi Youmenioras. But please Jerry could you some find us a tight end, Offensive tackle and a running back for THIS YEAR?

Offer him 3.5 to 4 Mil a year GAR then throw in incentives so he can make up to 6 Million a year on a 4-5 year deal

Right now we can make him play for less than 1 Mil so he needs to meet us in the middle as we can keep him where is he is at for 2 years or he can take a long term deal get 6X the money he gets now but he is NOT getting MEGATRON money its just not going to happen not after one year…
