Jets guard Matt Slauson: Tim Tebow is not an option

Written by  //  October 5, 2012  //  Feature, New York Jets  //  6 Comments

You’ve certainly heard the rumors that the Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is on the hot seat. With that comes the prediction that started in the off-season that Tim Tebow will overthrow the USC-bred signal caller and all will be well in the land.

If that happens things for the Jets could in fact get worse. The last time that I checked, the Jets take the field with 11 players at a time.

If 10 of the people that the quarterback is responsible for don’t believe in him, the team disintegrates into a hot gushy mess of pandemonium.

If you think it could not get worse in New York, watch what happens if Tebow gets thrown into the mix. As there is nothing more self-defeating than fielding an offensive line that does not believe in their guy.

“Mark knows that he’s got the support of the other 52 guys in the room, plus the coaching staff,” guard Matt Slauson told Newsday. “He’s our best chance to win, and we really believe in him.”

What about Tebow? “I like Tim and he’s a hell of a player,” Slauson said, “but Mark is our quarterback. No. 6 is our guy.”

Slauson also spoke on the media chit-chat about the potential move.

“You feel it. You hear all that junk, but we don’t care,” he said. “People are going to write whatever they’re going to write to sell the story, but I think everybody knows that ’6′ gives us the best chance to win.

“He’s a conventional quarterback, he’s extremely smart, he can throw it extremely well, and that’s just what our offense is built around.”

When asked what Tim Tebow could bring to the table for the Jets if he were to take the field in place of Sanchez. The veteran was direct in his point.

“That isn’t our offense,” he said. “I have no idea what we’d have to do. But to us in this room, that option is not an option.”

Tebow is an option based quarterback. You can take the Slauson’s last sentence how you want to but I take it as a direct message to Tebow from the Big Uglies.

As the Jets struggle to find replacement parts for their star players, their worst nightmare is coming true with this Tebow thing.

They thought they could contain it. But the truth is no one can.  The only thing that can kill Tebowmania is Tebow himself.

To do that Tim Tebow would have to completely and utterly fall on his face. To let that happen the Jets would send their true starter’s confidence back to a place that he might not return from.

The only really option for the Jets is to trade him to Jacksonville for a receiver like Laurent Robinson to replace Santonio Holmes and keep it pushing.

If they don’t make a similar move, this thing will eat that team alive.

The Jets must be living in their own fantasy world. I don’t think there is anything that can help the Jets. It doesn’t bother me that they don’t believe in Tebow, but that they believe so strongly in Sanchez. Why? Why? Why? What has Sanchez ever done that gives any indication that he is worthy to be a starting NFL QB?

Tebow needs to find a team that does believe in him. To heck with the Jets. Let them go already.

Sounds to me as though the immaturity of a bunch of teens! Are these guys truly willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win? Or, is it just a popularity contest, choosing the homecoming king from ammong your best friends. Yeah, Tim is the new kid in town, and teen boys had problems with that. I love the jets, and have been a fan since Namath was my idol. Lets throw all this immaturity to the wind, and rally around whoever is in the leader spot. Let the silliness stop, and figure out the best way to put wins in the books. Put the team above friendships; or maybe they’re happy playing ball, regardless of a losing record. Immature, stubborn fools…

He is just towing the company line. It sounds identical to blurbs from Denver last year. Winning will cure any doubts they have. If they stick with Mark I don’t think they are in any danger of winning. It’s time to make the change at QB, to change the culture of lacsidasical uninspired play.

Laurent Robinson? The guy who’s had two concussions in two weeks?

      Hey Mike,

The point was that the Jets are super desperate for anyone at the receiver position and should feel the same way about bringing this Tebow thing to a halt. Robinson has been injury prone his entire career but when he has produced the numbers have been nice. Thanks for the comment.

How about…..”Tim Tebow” has NOT been injury prone his entire career but when he has produced the numbers have been nice?

Robinson is NOT a #1 Receiver and would only rack up more concussion with Mark Sanchez throwing to him.

The JETS are a LEADERSHIP STARVED TEAM….Tebow might not be the answer but you KNOW Sanchez isn’t and even suggesting trading for a guy with two concussion in two weeks is like saying you want to hire Bobby Valentine to be your Manager!
