Jets guard Matt Slauson: Tim Tebow is not an option

You’ve certainly heard the rumors that the Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is on the hot seat. With that comes the prediction that started in the off-season that Tim Tebow will overthrow the USC-bred signal caller and all will be well in the land.
If that happens things for the Jets could in fact get worse. The last time that I checked, the Jets take the field with 11 players at a time.
If 10 of the people that the quarterback is responsible for don’t believe in him, the team disintegrates into a hot gushy mess of pandemonium.
If you think it could not get worse in New York, watch what happens if Tebow gets thrown into the mix. As there is nothing more self-defeating than fielding an offensive line that does not believe in their guy.
“Mark knows that he’s got the support of the other 52 guys in the room, plus the coaching staff,” guard Matt Slauson told Newsday. “He’s our best chance to win, and we really believe in him.”
What about Tebow? “I like Tim and he’s a hell of a player,” Slauson said, “but Mark is our quarterback. No. 6 is our guy.”
Slauson also spoke on the media chit-chat about the potential move.
“You feel it. You hear all that junk, but we don’t care,” he said. “People are going to write whatever they’re going to write to sell the story, but I think everybody knows that ’6′ gives us the best chance to win.
“He’s a conventional quarterback, he’s extremely smart, he can throw it extremely well, and that’s just what our offense is built around.”
When asked what Tim Tebow could bring to the table for the Jets if he were to take the field in place of Sanchez. The veteran was direct in his point.
“That isn’t our offense,” he said. “I have no idea what we’d have to do. But to us in this room, that option is not an option.”
Tebow is an option based quarterback. You can take the Slauson’s last sentence how you want to but I take it as a direct message to Tebow from the Big Uglies.
As the Jets struggle to find replacement parts for their star players, their worst nightmare is coming true with this Tebow thing.
They thought they could contain it. But the truth is no one can. The only thing that can kill Tebowmania is Tebow himself.
To do that Tim Tebow would have to completely and utterly fall on his face. To let that happen the Jets would send their true starter’s confidence back to a place that he might not return from.
The only really option for the Jets is to trade him to Jacksonville for a receiver like Laurent Robinson to replace Santonio Holmes and keep it pushing.
If they don’t make a similar move, this thing will eat that team alive.
