SAN DIEGO—When families are deep in the grieving process decisions are often made that are regretted later.

Within Junior Seau’s family one such decision that they are pulling away from is allowing his brain to be used for research.

According to Reuters, the family’s pastor Shawn Mitchell has come forth or their behalf to state their current position.

“They have now stepped back from what they were thinking initially,” Mitchell said on Saturday when asked about the family’s plans for Seau’s brain.

“Nothing is definite right now.”

Asked whether the family was still planning to allow researchers to examine the brain, Mitchell said: “I don’t want to give the impression they’re not going to anymore.”

But he added: “We thought everything was kind of nailed, and now it’s in flux.”

“They just want to slow down, be sure they’re doing it right,” he said. “With the incredible, incredible anguish and grief and pressure of this situation, they’ve been in a fog. Now, they’re getting counsel.”

The timing of Seau’s death came at a time when concussions and their residual effects are a hot button topic in the NFL.

It’s not known what Junior’s personal wishes were in regards to this issue were at the time of his death. It has also been reported that he did not leave a note or any type of information behind to leave a clue as to what drove him to this mental state.

With lingering issues hanging in the air, its understandable as to why the family sways back and forth as to what their final decision will be.
