The New York Knicks made a splash when they brought in veteran Jason Kidd in free agency. Kidd was due to mentor Jeremy Linn and now that obviously won’t happen as Lin is most likely heading back to the Houston Rockets.
Kidd chose to make a headline of his own Sunday morning as he is the latest athlete to be arrested for DWI/DUI.
The perennial All-Star guard was arrested by the Southampton Town police after he allegedly stuck a telephone pole while driving his 2010 Cadillac Escalade.
Kidd has a house in the Hamptons and was perhaps out celebrating his 3-year, $9.5 million dollar deal with the Knicks that he signed on Thursday.
The incident happed at approximately 2 a.m. EST. Kidd was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released to local authorities.
He was charged with misdemeanor DWI and released.
The Knicks obviously had a plan that has taken a downhill turn over the past three days. Kidd is like everyone a human that makes mistakes but I don’t for the life of me understand how he could not process the thought of ‘ I have money let me call a cab.’
These things happen because a lot of guys are afraid that the media will find out from a cabbie or limo driver that will ring up an outlet like TMZ.
But any press that would have came out of Jason Kidd was wasted is certainly better than the press that stems from Kidd was drunk and he hit a telephone pole while he was driving.
