Knowshon Moreno knows that he’s on the bubble

Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno should be in the prime of his career racking up the yardage yet he’s licking his proverbial wounds from previous injuries fighting for a roster spot.
After the Broncos’ 29-24 preseason loss to the 49ers, the conversation has exclusively been about how well QB Peyton Manning looked as he hooked up with Eric Decker.
Moreno getting a shot at some real playing time has become an afterthought as even he recognized that the Broncos’ coaches do have a quandary on their hands when it comes to his position.
“Coach is going to have some tough decisions to make,” Moreno told the Denver Post.
“It’s pretty tough at the running back position right now,” Moreno said.
“I try not to think about it and let my game speak for itself,” Moreno said. “I’m going to let the coaches make those hard decisions. We have a lot of good players on this team.”
The assertive stance would not have been one that he adopted even a year ago as the former Georgia Bulldog was still viewed as a hot commodity that was ready for his close-up.
But once again he sputtered and a knee injury took him out of that conversation. So now he must do what he has to do to keep it moving.
“Me playing special teams? I haven’t taken a snap on special teams, even in practice,” Moreno said. “But I’m willing to do whatever I have to do to be on this team and help this team.”
“In open space, I’m just trying to make those jukes I normally do, and get out there to run,” said Moreno. “This is one of the best weeks I’ve had.”
But is it enough to land him a spot?
If Moreno is cut, he should land somewhere as there are a few teams out there that are desperate for a youthful option that can step in and lead a charge.
If the chips fall that way, we’ll discuss potential landing spots in a follow-up piece.
