DETROIT- Now that Houston’s Andre Johnson has fallen victim to ACL trouble that may or may not linger throughout his 2012-2013 run, it’s hard to deny that Calvin “Megatron” Johnson is not the king of the wide out mountain.
He’s taken his physical attributes and matched them with a work ethic that has rendered him at times unstoppable.
You know all of that already. What none of us know is how Johnson will fare operating under the umbrella of the infamous Madden curse.
In a discussion with someone recently, I mentioned that if you remove just one letter, then perhaps Johnson will be the Madden “cure.” Time will bear that answer out.
No man is indestructible but Johnson told the Detroit Free Press that is working as hard as he can to secure success this season.
“But just knowing me, just myself, I always feel there’s something I can work on every year,” he said. “That’s my motivation, just things my coach and I go over. Like I said, there’s always something to work on.
“You just keep on striving, man, whether it be for route running, seeing the ball. There’s times when you might drop a ball. You always strive for perfection. We just get that from our coach and it’s kind of what we do as a group.”
His QB Matthew Stafford feels that Johnson can do anything that he wants to do and can possibly outshine his stats last year of 96 receptions, 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns.
“Yeah, I don’t see why not,” he said. “The guy’s playing at the highest level in the NFL for receivers right now. If you know anything about him, he’s a competitive guy, he takes pride in what he does and expects to probably be in the same spot he was in last year.”
Still, as we await Madden 13, you have to think as excited as Detroit fans maybe, they have to be on edge just a tiny bit.
