NEW ORLEANS- Running back Mark Ingram underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday. The 2011 number-one pick out of Alabama has had trouble with his knee in the past.
In addition to previous knee concerns, Ingram has also dealt with toe issues that rendered him inconsistent throughout his rookie season.
The Saints brought him into a be a workhorse style back but he only showed flashes of that ability last year.
Now he’s going into the start of the real off-season team work with a situation that will keep him out of the mix for six weeks.
It’s hard to predict where this will go for Ingram. There are so many things going wrong for that team right now that they were presumably dependent on being able to use a strong running game to offset the damage done to their defense.
Can Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory and Darren Sproles settle in pound it out when the team needs to worry about controlling the clock more so than making big plays?
There needs to be an answer to that question if Ingram’s availability continues to be inconsistent.
