Mark Sanchez hires cops with shotguns to protect Jets West and more in NFL Daily Digest.

It Can’t Be All That: Jets QB Mark Sanchez’s Jets West retreat/workout has become an annual rite of passage for their offensive skill players.
So much so that according to the New York Post, Sanchez hired a security detail of epic proportions to keep uninvited guests and the media out.
One of five uniformed Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies was “openly” armed with a shotgun on display for anybody who wanted a problem.
A group of others that were in plain clothes patrolled the roped off stadium area of Mission Viejo High School to protect various vantage and entry points.
I understand the need to address security concerns but c’mon Mark is that for potential Tebow fanatics or players that are trying to escape?
“Mark just wanted to keep the distractions out,” TE Dustin Keller said. “After what happened last year [an 8-8 finish and home for the playoffs], he wants all of us totally focused on football and the job at hand. [No media allowed] is not what we’re used to back in New York, but it makes sense here.”
You know some of these guys could have been former Secret Service agents that recently spent some time on foreign soil.
Well Then: The Miami Dolphins may have been the only team in the race of Chad Johnson. The sentiment was confirmed in the Miami Herald where an unnamed GM laid out how many teams feel about him.
“His best asset is his ability to get separation on routes,” the longtime general manager said. “But you want a disciplined receiver to be in the right spots, and that’s not what this guy is. I would not have touched him. His personality issues are not going to change. I don’t know if he’s ever going to get it.”
Is this a further indictment of his so-called low football I.Q. or a dig at his work ethic which has never been questioned before?
Some further clarity would indeed be nice as now this issue is in the forefront of his reputation. Is the guy just too lazy to break down film and dig into his playbook?
He’s stating that he can separate from defenders but he doesn’t know where to be. That’s a fixable issue that hopefully jokes, video games and reality shows won’t take precedence over. Chad’s a good guy and you want the good guys to go out on top.
But if he doesn’t care enough to solve fixable issues, then he should not strap up and waste anybody’s time.
Quickly: Drew Brees and the Saints are still about $10million dollars apart in the guaranteed portion of his contract according to ESPN. Minnesota’s Percy Harvin has indicated that he will not play in 2013 without a new deal. The legendary Jerry Rice went on SportsCenter and professed his love for the Falcon’s Julio Jones. “I love this kid,” said Rice. “He’s awesome. He’s big, he’s fast. … I think he’s gonna have a breakout season this coming year.”
