HomeBreakingNew York Jets poised to sign Chris Johnson? Ben Grimaldi April 4, 2014 Breaking, Grid, Home, New York Jets, News, NFL 1 Comment With the news of Chris Johnson’s impending release, fans might be wondering where the speedy running back could land next? Multiple sources believe that Johnson is likely to land with the New York Jets when he is given his walking papers from the Tennessee Titans. CBS Sports, ESPN, NFL Network and the New York Daily News all believe the Jets are the favorites to sign Johnson. New York has the cap space to take on a sizeable contract the big-play running back could command and have a need at the position. Top runners have only gotten about $3 million in the open market this off-season, a number that Johnson is likely to top. The Jets had the 6th best rushing attack in the NFL last season when they platooned Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory at running back, and both players were good when called upon. Ivory led the team with just 833 yards rushing on the season and averaged 4.6 yards a carry, while Powell ran for 697 yards. Together, the duo ran for 1,530 yards on the year, a nice total for the pair but they only scored four touchdowns on the season. Johnson, who ran for 1,077 yards and six touchdowns in 2013, would give the Jets the home run threat they haven’t had in a long time at the position. Although the explosive back hasn’t produced the stellar numbers he did during his first few years in the league, Johnson is still a good player and a threat to score any time he touches the ball. Adding Johnson would also give the Jets one of the best stables of running backs in the NFL. Johnson would bring some speed to the New York offense, something they sorely lack, while Ivory and Powell could be the power runners in an ideal rotation. Chris Johnson is about to become a free agent and no one should be surprised if he lands with the New York Jets. Or we should not be surprised because he will not command the $ that the corners all got and that will make the GM happier. You might be right but i think many Jets fans will be surprised.
