INDIANA –Have the Pacers essentially picked George Hill over Roy Hibbert? That may be the case as they have just handed Hill afive-year deal that will be signed after the league’s moratorium period ends on July 11.
According to the Indianapolis Star, the financial terms of his deal were not disclosed at post time although they should hit the street before the day is over.
Hill caught on with the Pacers in a big way after the guard took over for an injured Darren Collison last season.
Hill averaged 13.9 points and 5.3 assists in nine starts last season and has locked down his spot in a roster that is being predicted to elevate the team to the next level in 2012-2013.
Hill deservedly got his opportunity to stay with the Pacers but as the Trail Blazers woo Hibbert with a max deal, what other moves will they make.
Hibbert is an extremely valuable part of that starting five and their success may be handcuffed without his inside presence.
The process will play out but with each dollar spent by the Pacers their true intentions will come forth.
Meanwhile Hibbert was all smiles for Hill as he congratulated him on his Twitter account.
“Congrats to my boy @George_Hill3. Def deserved everything he got. Non lotto picks in the ’08 draft doing big things!”
