TENNESSEE, March 5–It won’t be CB Finnegan that gets the franchise tag in Tennessee as they gave safety Michael Griffin that money.
According to a statement on the team’s website, Griffin may be a Titan for an extended period of time.
“This designation will allow both parties to work on a long-term contract prior to the season and protects the team with free agency opening on March 13, when Griffin was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. “
Griffin’ numbers have been impressive. He’s a two time Pro Bowlers that has 73 starts, 314 solo tackles, 17 interceptions and seven forced fumbles amongst other statistics.
Griffin first shot into the national spotlight as a member of the University of Texas Longhorns’ National Championship team that won the Rose Bowl. During that game he came up with a key goal line interception that helped lock-up the title.
With immediate supremacy in the AFC South apparently being a two team race between the Titans and the Houston Texans, look for Griffin to help continue to shore up Titan’s defense that plays under the “ bend, don’t break philosophy.”
