Team: Baltimore Ravens
Cap room: $1.8
The Deal: Believe it or not, CB Lardarius Webb’s big money deal earlier in the week actually saved the Ravens money in 2012.
The restructured contract gives them an extra $120k to play with. In NFL terms that’s pennies. The important thing is that the deal in the short term ended up being a financial benefit for all parties concerned.
QB Joe Flacco is making it known that he is the “best” gunslinger in the league and that he wants a new deal. Everyone on the globe but Flacco and his agent laughed at that statement. In Flacco’s situation he’s about to play out the last year of his rookie deal. .
Running Back Ray Rice has played through his rookie deal and is playing under the franchise tag this year.
It makes more sense for the team to take care of Rice immediately for two reasons. Rice has been a more productive asset and Rice’s situation is more immediate.
Rice is currently set to bring home $7.7 million this year under the tag. The team could in theory get that number down by at least $2.5. million dollars if they can get Rice’s long term deal done.
Other Ravens getting loot are Ed Reed ($7.2 million), Flacco ($6.76 million), Anquan Boldin ($6 million) and Ray Lewis ($4.9 million).
