Tom Brady says that the Patriots spoiled people

Written by  //  October 22, 2012  //  Feature, New England Patriots, NFL  //  14 Comments

It’s been said for some time now that the New England Patriots will most likely never be the team that they were again.

That has not stopped die-hards and casual fans for treating each upcoming game as an event that will feature points raining from the sky.

We suspect that as long as Tom Brady is in the picture that expectation of what this edition of the Patriots were in their prime will always perhaps unfairly hover over them.

Tom Brady himself has now addressed the subject during a interview on WEEI on the Dennis & Callahan show.

“We’re trying to do it. It’s not like you flip a switch. I don’t think that’s it. There’s 53 guys that are trying to do their best out there, and we’re just not doing our best. Hopefully we get to that point. That’s part of why we practice, why we meet and why we go to to work every day,” Brady said. “I wish it were that easy. And maybe there were times when it has looked that easy. But I think you appreciate it when it does work. And you realize the preparation that you put into it, that it pays off. Maybe we’ve just spoiled some people in the meantime. Because it’s hard to win, man. It’s really hard to win.”

“It’s a hard sport, man,” he said. “I’m telling you … I think there’s times where, like I said, we made it look easy at times, and it’s never been easy. There’s some years where things go a certain way, and there’s some years where they don’t. We’re in dogfights. That’s what it is, and that’s what it’s going to be. As a player, it’s not like we go, ‘Man, we’re just going to score 50 points this week.’ No, you’ve got to earn it. And you’re earning it against another damn good team.

“There’s some good teams. We saw some pretty good teams over the course of this season. We’ve been close at times. We’ve won some, we’ve lost some. Hopefully, we can win some close ones, because that’s what it’s going to take.”

Will Brady’s words temper expectations? Maybe but they probably won’t.

I love when people take words out of context to get hits for their website. “Maybe we have spoiled some people” turns into Brady: “the patriots have spoiled fans!!!!”

Cool. I guess I fell for it. Next time I won’t, troll harder.

Tom has more than “some spoiled fans” . He has a HUGE amount of spoiled fans. Watch on tv and see all the fans sitting down or standing with their arms crossed when they have a critical play (3rd and 1, etc.) coming up. I’m not sure why the silent “fans” are even going to the games. Because they can?

I agree. This is a case where once again the media puts a spin on what was said. Tom Brady NEVER said Pats fans are spoiled. We love our team and our quarterback. The media should report stories instead of making them up.

I think Tom Brady has gotten too big for his britches
and I think he is the one who is spoiled. He used to avoid the sack by running but now he just collpases.
He gets mad at other players but needs to take a good look at himself.

The whole state of Massachusetts is brimming with people who whine, talk funny and vote for Kennedys. Tom has it right.

If Cutler would have collapsed when Suh had a hold on his arm he would feel a lot better today

It’s true, the Patriots haven’t been very sharp a lot this season. They SHOULD be at least 6-1 this season, maybe 7-0. Nothing says fans can’t be critical, but the Chicken Little bandwagoners are getting out of hand at times.

what an erroneous attempt to twist and slant an honest opinion of a great quaterback by a sports writer who obviously spent hours trying to figure the best header to sell his weak typed words that told us nothing about anything.

    Sad.

Anyway, Tom, you’re a classy guy. Real fans know it, and not just PATS fans. True fans laugh at the stupidity of these writers hounding for flash and sensationalism.

It’s all part of the game. Sad, but true.

    Go Pats!

Alright you spoiled brats, go to your rooms! Except Tim and Laura. You two can stay up and watch tv, and have a bowl of ice cream.

He is so right. When I get ready to watch a game I sometimes think, “this should be a breeze”. When we barely win or lose I think “what is that about?” I guess I needed the reminder that this is not the early Brady years/team.

I find it interesting in the extreme that sportswriters are STILL a part of the compromised media that won’t tell us the truth about ANYTHING in this country in an election year so why should their sports counterparts opine differently? The time of Brady with New England will be over in four or so more years. I, for one, will think him to have been one of the greatest to EVER play the game and, THAT will be borne out by his performance record as a professional. To single out Pats fans for being exuberant and EXPECTING TOO MUCH IS STUPID!,just like the sportswriters. When Pittsburgh was winning Superbowls with boring regularity in the 70′s, and the same was true of Dallas at times for it’s multiple wins, tell me their fans were ANY different than New England’s and I will call you a bold faced liar to YOUR face. The same is true of the Yankees and all other successful teams in other sports. Boston has had more professional championship teams than ANY city in America since the turn of the century. That time is coming to an end but, they had every right to celebrate the reality while it lasted and don’t tell me that they are not envied by those less successful. You don’t have to like them but you SHOULD respect accomplishment. It is a given in a tough nosed sport that success WILL breed a pride in your team and a contempt for all others during your time in the driver’s seat. As the old Boston Patriots and continuing until the Kraft era, the Patriots were for the most part, one of the most inept teams ever. All things in football and in life are cyclical. To get all over the fans for being fans is not very bright, but then: neither are sportswriters or announcers, self-proclaimed experts all who do their thing for a living which makes tham smarter than the rest of us? I do not think so. After all, opinions are opinions. Everyone has them and one is as valid as the other most of the time. All things must pass, but this period of time was as good as it ever gets for MOST of the teams in Boston. They earned the right to celebrate as they see fit after decades of frustration prior to a relatively fleeting sucess. That it happened to most of them at approximately the same time just added frosting to the cake. You can all eat your hearts out while awaiting such a development in your hometeams. some of you will even get it! When you do, remember: pride and high expectations always preceed, THE INEVITABLE FALL.

I still believe in them, in sports nothing comes easy. I went to my first game in Seattle a couple of weeks ago, I knew the seahawks defense was good this year and it wouldn’t be easy for us, but as a fan…a true fan the Patriots do make it seem easy sometimes. Spoiled or not, win or lose i’m going to continue to be there for them!

  • Mark Skattum

As a Seahawk fan, I am silently amused by these comments coming from Pat fans. I won’t mention the last time the Pats were here and be nice to them. But, yes it’s possible that when the team of your choosing is workin out just right for your mental ease, you get real spoiled. Just wish we in the Northwest could get to a spoiled area some day. Peace!

As a Seattleite I can say, I’d like to be getting spoiled some day like those of you in New England are. It’s been a tough road for us at times. But, every once in a while games are a joy. Like the one recently here when the Pats were very gracious and boobooed late in the game for their total niceness to let the Seahawk fans be temporarily spoiled too. Peace!
